Camp Cataract

Juliusz Słowacki Theater in Krakow

based on a short story by Jane Bowles

You cannot stay outside more often than at home. If you start to do so, what will your home look like? Where will you live? How will you go out to the courtyard, if the courtyard is your home? Will you sit outside all the time, thinking you’re inside?!

The main protagonist, Harriet, resembles the Dutch artist Bas Jan Ader, who vanished during his own performance in 1975. He was trying to sail across the Atlantic Ocean in a single sail boat. Harriet likewise drifts away from the familiar and safe ground. Her Atlantic is Camp Cataract: the place of a miraculous disappearance.
