Dominika Knapik is a choreographer, director, dancer and actress. Graduate of the AST National Academy of Theater Arts in Krakow (Acting Department). She has received numerous scholarships (DanceWeb Europe 2007, followed by ArtsLink scholarship in 2009, scholarship from the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Hermitage in 2011) and several artistic residencies (e.g. Tanzhaus Düsseldorf). In 2008, she co-founded the artistic collective Harakiri Farmers, which has completed several interdisciplinary projects presented during: Polish Dance Platform, Polish Express III in Hau (Berlin), Malta Festival in Poznań or Bonn International Dance Solo Festival.
In 2012, she organized the New Dance in Old Cracow Festival, she also worked as
the dance curator at Cracow Theatrical Reminiscences Festival. She regularly collaborates with various important theatrical institutions in Poland and
abroad, e.g. Narodowy Stary Teatr in Cracow, Nowy Teatr in Warsaw, Narodowy Teatr in Warsaw, Teatr Łaźnia Nowa in Cracow, MCHAT/Moscow, Thalia Theater in Hamburg, Schauspielhaus Bochum and Arthur Miller Theater/ University of Michigan. She collaborates as a choreographer with many directors, e.g. Iga Gańczarczyk, Ewelina Marciniak, Maja Kleczewska, Radek Rychcik, Anna Smolar, Anna Augustynowicz, Paweł Łysak, Jan Klata, Monika Strzępka, Paweł Miśkiewicz, Remigiusz
Brzyk, Bartosz Szydłowski, Malcolm Tulip, Julia Wissert nad Olaf Kröck. She is the author of choreography for most of Ewelina Marciniak’s performances (including Amateurs, Portrait of a Lady, Morphine, Death and Girl), recently Der Boxer at Thalia Theater Hamburg (Faust Award), Die Jungfrau von Orleans at the Nationaltheater Mannheim and Die Jakobsbücher at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg.
In 2015, she was first choreographer nominated for the prestigious Passport award of the Polityka weekly in the category of Theatre. She has received numerous individual awards e.g. Golden Mask for choreography in Leni Riefenstahl. Epizody niepamięci, the award of the Mayor of the City of Rzeszów for choreography in Portrait of a Lady, award for choreography in Baba-Dziwo in Klasyka Żywa Competition 2019 and collective awards (Tukan OFF/1st prize in the OFF PPA contest for performance “Not I”, 1st prize in the New Situations contest at the Malta Festival in Poznań for “keret”.
She has been working as a director since 2017, staging Afternoon of a Faun in Teatr Rozrywki in Chorzów, Bang Bang at the Jaracza Theater in Łódź, Camp Cataract at the Słowacki Theater in Kraków and Baba Dziwo at the Dramatyczny Theater in Wałbrzych. In 2020, she directed Agon – a choreographic monodrama, which premiered at the Divine Comedy Festival in Krakow. Her most recent work as a director is Twitching and Other Games at the Wrocław Mime Theater, which premiered in June 2021.
