DOMINIKA KNAPIK

Dominika Knapik – choreographer, director and  performer. As a choreographer she has been collaborating with Polish directors for many years, and has also been working intensively in Germany for several years. Winner of many individual awards for choreography, in 2015 she was nominated for the “Polityka” Passports in the “Theatre” category. Between 2007 and 2015, she co-founded the artistic collective Harakiri Farmers, with which she has realised many original interdisciplinary projects. Since 2016, she has also worked as a director. In 2016, she directed ‘Bang Bang’ (Jaracz Theatre in Łódź), in 2019 ‘Baba-Dziwo (Dramatyczny Theatre in Wałbrzych), in 2020 the choreographic monodrama ‘Agon’ (Łaźnia Nowa Theatre), and in 2021 ‘Twitching and Other Games’ (Wrocław Pantomime Theatre).

 Her most recent works include “VALESKA VALESKA VALESKA VALESKA” realized with the Sticky Fingers Club collective and “HOTEL H**** created in collaboration with the HERTZ HAUS ensemble. 

She is one half of the dramaturgical, choreographic and directing duo called FAT AND DUMB which she has been co-creating with Patrycja Kowańska since 2023. For their performance entitled “Very Funny”, the creators received the Grand Prize and the Journalists’ Prize of the ShakespeareOFF  of the 27th Shakespeare Festival in Gdańsk. They recently (October 2023) premiered their next production entitled ‘Penthesilea. Reconstructing the Body of Amazons’, which, along with Fat and Dumb, features contemporary Amazons – women with experience of breast cancer.

Dominika Knapik is a choreographer, director, and performer. She is a graduate of the St. Wyspianski Academy of Theatre Arts in Krakow, Faculty of Acting. She was awarded many scholarships (DanceWeb in 2007, ArtsLink in 2009, and in 2011 a scholarship of the Ministry of Culture) and artistic residencies (e.g. Tanzhaus Düsseldorf).

In 2008, she co-founded the artistic collective Harakiri Farmers, with which she realised many interdisciplinary projects presented at festivals such as the Polish Dance Platform, Polish Express III at HAU in Berlin, Malta Festival in Poznań or Bonn International Dance Solo Festival.

In 2012 she initiated  New Dance in Old Kraków and cooperated as a curator for Krakow Theatrical Reminiscences. She regularly collaborates with important national and international institutions, such as the National Old Theatre in Krakow, the New Theatre in Warsaw, the National Theatre in Warsaw,  Łaźnia Nowa Theatre in Krakow, Thalia Theater in Hamburg, Schauspielhaus Bochum or the University of Michigan.

As a choreographer, she has collaborated with, among others: Iga Gańczarczyk, Ewelina Marciniak, Maja Kleczewska, Radek Rychcik, Anna Smolar, Anna Augustynowicz, Paweł Łysak, Jan Klata, Monika Strzępka, Paweł Miśkiewicz, Remigiusz Brzyk, Bartosz Szydłowski, Malcolm Tulip, Julia Wissert, Olaf Kröck and  Jette Steckel. She has choreographed most of Ewelina Marciniak’s productions (‘Amatorki’, ‘Portrait of a Lady’, ‘Morphine’, ‘Death and the Girl’, among others), most recently „Der Boxer” at Thalia Theater Hamburg (Faust Prize), „Die Jungfrau von Orleans” at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, „Die Jakobsbücher” and „Iphigenia” at Thalia Theater Hamburg).

In 2015, she was nominated for the prestigious Paszporty Polityki award in the ‘Theatre’ category. She has won numerous individual awards (including the Golden Mask for „Leni.Episodes of Oblivion”, Award of the Mayor of the City of Rzeszów for choreography for „Portrait of a Lady”, award for choreography for the performance „Baba- Dziwo” within the Klasyka Żywa 2019 competition) and collective awards (Tukan OFF/PPA Wrocław for the performance ‘Not me’, 1st Award in the Contest ‘New Situations’ during the Malta Festival in 2008 for the performance ‘keret’).

Since 2017 she has been working as a director staging „Afternoon of a Faun” at Teatr Rozrywki in Chorzów, „Bang Bang” at Teatr Jaracz in Łódź, „Camp Cataract” at Teatr Słowacki in Kraków and „Baba Dziwo” at Teatr Dramatyczny in Wałbrzych. In 2020, she directed „Agon”, a choreographic monodrama that premiered at the Divine Comedy Festival in Kraków. In 2021, she created „Twitching and Other Games” at the Wrocław Pantomime Theatre.
